International tensions are resulting in significant investment in defence equipment and expansion. This situation is similar to that of a century and a half ago. In the Amersfoort region, for example, space is being made for housing, work and training facilities, as well as storage and training grounds. The Bernhardkazerne barracks are being revitalised and plans are being made to redevelop other barracks sites.
This architectural map shows military heritage in Amersfoort, Soest, Soesterberg and Leusden from 1839 onwards. The emphasis is on architecture, urban planning and landscape design. The map was compiled by FASadE and features beautiful photographs, most of which were taken by architectural photographer Dirk Verwoerd. The sources of the archive images are indicated on the map. Christa Jesse of Studio Jesse was responsible for the graphic design.
